On-Orbit Assembled Satellite Systems

STARport

SpaceBilt is developing the world’s first “automated factory in space” called STARport. “STAR” stands for Space Technology to Assemble and Reprovision. STARport is a robotic space factory for the mass production of modular, reusable and reprovisionable, space vehicles called STARcraft, that will enable new capabilities in space and greatly reduce the cost of owning and operating space systems. The STARTcraft will be launched in segments, each safely packed in foam, and then will be robotically assembled at the STARport in 24 hours or less.

This on-orbit assembly will greatly reduce the launch loads on the hardware and simplify the design and testing required. This type of assembly will enable spacecraft to no longer be viewed as expensive throw away commodities, but instead they will be reimagined into valuable capital assets to be serviced, repaired, reprovisioned, upgraded and repurposed. This enables a transformational change in spacecraft economics and will reduce the life cycle cost of owning and operating in GEO satellites by an order of magnitude.
